To be INSPIRED or to COPY? – lasciarsi ISPIRARE o COPIARE? [It/Eng]

Have you ever tried to do something looking at someone just to be inspired but you felt like you were copying?

Welcome, wayfarer! Today we’ll talk about the difference between to be inspired and copying.

I’ve recently found a great artist on youtube. She’s a Swedish girl who lives in the northern Sweden with her husband. She can sing, paint, write and make amazing videos about the simple country life and stunning landscapes of Sweden.

I really like her style. It’s simple and emotional at the same time. She can express her feelings very easily and sparks joy, happiness and gratitude for her life.Watching her videos I found some very interesting aspects. So I decided to learn from her style and take inspiration.

This doesn’t mean I’ll copy her. I don’t want to create art in the way she does. If I did the whole creative process and my creations would loose their meaning.

Copy to learn…

When we create something we put our soul in it and it will represent a part of ourselves.

If we copy we are stealing someone else’s ideas. They will never be ours so they will be empty.

Copying is useful only when we are learning. It is a good way to exercise and practice new techniques or knowledge.

When I was in secondary school my Art teacher always said “copying is the best way to learn.”

She let us copy images from different comics during her Art lessons because she believed that it was the simplest way to practice in different drawing styles.

…get inspired to create!

I agree with her point of view. If we think about it, children copy their parents and if we have to something we’ve never done we always look at someone who did it before.

But when it comes to create something unique, that has to be shown or published we can’t continue copying. We must use what we’ve learnt to create an original work.

Being inspired means this to me: looking at someone else’s work (or idea or techniques), processing it in my mind, learn what’s behind it and then use it in my own way to express my ideas, feelings, point of view and so on.

In conclusion

We can’t just copy and paste what we like from someone else’s work in our work.

If we appreciate something we can learnt how to use it to express ourselves. Our work will represent us, our ideas, believes, feelings and life. This work will talk about ourselves.

So, “copying and pasting” is not “taking inspiration” it’s stealing ideas. To be INSPIRED is looking at others, learn from them and use this knowledge to find an original way to express ourselves.

Ti è mai capitato di fare qualcosa guardando qualcun’altro per prendere ispirazione ma ti sei sentito come se stessi copiando?

Benvenuto, viandante! Oggi riflettiamo sulla differenza tra essere ispirati e copiare.

Ultimamente ho scoperto una bravissima artista su youtube; è una ragazza svedese che vive nel nord della Svezia con il marito. Canta, dipinge, scrive e pubblica video meravigliosi sulla semplice vita di campagna e gli straordinari paesaggi della Svezia.

Apprezzo molto il suo stile. È semplice, ma allo stesso tempo regala forti emozioni. Questa artista sa esprimere facilmente i suoi sentimenti e trasmette gioia, felicità e gratitudine per la sua vita. Guardando i suoi video ho trovato diversi aspetti interessati. Così ho deciso di imparare da lei e prendere ispirazione.

Ciò non significa che copierò. Non voglio fare arte nel suo stesso modo. Se lo facessi l’intero processo creativo e le mie stesse creazioni perderebbero il loro senso.

Copiare per imparare…

Quando creiamo qualcosa vi mettiamo la nostra anima e quella cosa rappresenterà una parte di noi stessi.

Se copiamo stiamo rubando e idee di qualcun’altro. Non saranno mai nostre e quindi risulteranno vuote.

Copiare è utile solo nell’apprendimento. È un buon modo per esercitarsi e mettere in pratica nuove tecniche e conoscenze.

Quando frequentavo la scuola media la mia professoressa di Educazione Artistica diceva sempre: “copiare è il miglior modo per imparare.”

Durante le sue lezioni ci facwva copiare le immagini dai fumetti perché riteneva fosse il metodo più semplice per far pratica con i diversi stili di disegno.

…ispirarsi per creare!

Approvo il suo punto di vista. Se ci pensiamo, i bambini copiano dai loro genitori, e quando dobbiamo fare qualcosa che non abbiamo mai fatto guardiamo sempre chi lo ha fatto prima i noi.

ma quando si tratta di creare qualcosa di unico, che dovrebbe rappresentare noi stessi e che deve essere mostrato o pubblicato non possiamo continuare a copiare. Dobbiamo mettere in pratica ciò che abbiamo imparato per creare qualcosa di originale che parli di noi.

Prendere ispirazione significa questo per me: guardare il lavori di altri, elaborarlo nella mia mente, imparare cosa c’è dietro e quindi utilizzarlo a mio modo per esprimere e mie idee, sentimenti, punto di vista e così via.

In conclusione

Non possiamo prendere ciò che ci piace del lavoro di qualcun’altro e copiarlo direttamente nel nostro.

Se apprezziamo qualcosa, possiamo imparare ad usarla per esprimere noi stessi. Il nostro lavoro deve rappresentare noi, le nostre idee, credenze, sentimenti e la nostra vita. Deve parlare di noi a modo nostro.

quindi, “copiare e incollare” non è “prendere ispirazione” è rubare idee. prendere ispirazione è guardare gli altri, imparare da loro ed usare quella conoscenza per trovare un modo unico per esprimere noi stessi.
